Blackpool to Chester 7/7/13

Well, what a contrast, we left our idyllic apartment in Near Sawrey to drive to Blackpool. Goodness me - Blackpool is the TOTAL opposite of the quiet and peaceful Lake District. We arrived at our hotel near the North Pier of Blackpool and we were directed to a large secure car park where we could leave the car overnight. We walked back to the hotel and were shown into our room, or cupboard, as it appeared to be. The room was about 3 metres wide and just long enough for 2 very uncomfortable single beds. It was awful! Never go there! The staff were friendly but very unprofessional. All youngish men who seemed to be on some sort of day release program (tattoos, no uniform, bare feet, etc).

We left the room to go for a walk around the town and the beach area. It was very busy as the weather has finally turned into summer with temperatures in the mid 20's. Blackpool is a town for holiday breaks, hen parties, bucks nights, adult entertainment, clubs, etc. we walked down to the pier and beach area. It was packed! They even had donkey rides on the beach. We saw the Blackpool Tower which is impressive, but the whole area is very, very touristy and sleazy.

After a very uncomfortable night we left blackpool at 10.00. Never been so glad to leave anywhere in my life. Blackpool is awful!!!

We headed off to Chester. On our arrival we found that it was Choir Day in Chester which meant the road was closed and we had to find a car park and walk to our hotel. After we checked in we left our stuff in our lovely, spacious room and went out to explore the town and listen to the various choirs performing.

Chester is originally a Roman settlement and is a walled city. It is beautiful. We rode on a restored open top bus and heard a lot of the town's history.

We are having a lovely time in Chester. Our room at the Pied Bull is comfortable. The pub was built in 1155! Can you believe it? We will spend the data exploring and having a pleasant time, especially now that summer has finally arrived.

  2. Blackpool certainly sounds like an adventure! You weren't tempted to make use of the Tattoo parlour over the road? Chester looks like a dream by comparison. Enjoy the sunshine!!!
