Cheltenham and Bath 17/7/13 to 20/7/13

Happy birthday Hayley. we both hope youve had a fabulous day.

As we ate our dinner on our last night in Ross-on-Wye a hot air balloon was preparing to take off from a field in front of us. What a delight. It lifted off slowly and gracefully and floated off into the evening sky.

We left Ross-on-Wye the next morning and drove to Cheltenham. On the way we called in on Jen's Aunty Marjorie. It was lovely to see her. Stupidly I forgot to take a photo as we were talking to much. Sorry Jen. We arrived in Cheltenham and found our hotel. It's a converted office building, quite comfortable but incredibly noisy! Lots of traffic, late night revellers and the loudest seagulls in the world. After we checked in we went for a walk and found a nice Spanish restaurant where we had tea. Cheltenham is a pretty town, but there is not huge amounts of stuff to do.

So we decided to go to Bath instead. Bath is lovely, full of history and also very, very pretty. We explored the town and took a bus ride up into the surrounding hills.

Today we leave the lovely Cotswolds and head off to Cornwall. I think it will be a long, slow trip as school holidays begin and the weather is very warm and sunny. It's been about 30 degrees every day for the last 2 weeks and shows no sign of cooling down. I think Cornwall will be very busy.

  2. Love the balloon, makes a change from a festival!!
Have just had a brand new oven istalled! Hooray. We've just had the warmest July day in recorded history. 23 degrees, I think it was - not quite an English heat-wave but pleasant none the less. Wish I was going to Cornwall with you. Have a drink at the Watering Hole for me!
