Chester to Llangollen 9/7/13

We had a lovely time in Chester. It is a very beautiful city. We hade a boat ride on the river Dee, which is a very pretty stretch of water. In some parts the picnickers even shared the grass with the cows!

Our hotel was very nice, originally built in 1155. It was all beams, low ceilings, sloping floors and ste ep stairs.

We walked along the city walls and also visited The Rows, which are the first floor rows of shops. They built them above the road so that they avoided land tax in the Middle Ages. We even met the Town Crier and a couple of Roman soldiers. Chester really uses its history well.

After leaving Chester we drove over the border into Wales. We arrived in Llangollen and found our hotel and checked in. Llangollen is a very pretty little village on the banks of the river Dee (yes, the same one). The town was abuzz with excitement! It was their international Eisteddfod. Their were choirs and musical groups from 50 countries around the world! Amazing! There was a street parade which we had to watch and it was just wonderful. The town is jam packed with visitors from all over the world!

We will explore Llangollen further and become more acquainted with the culture of Eisteddfods.
