The Borders, Melrose and Jedburgh

Today we drove to The Borders, N original name for an area close to the English and Scottish border. We drove through some beautiful countryside.

We first went to Jedburgh Abbey and then travelled to Melrose Abbey, supposedly the place where Robert the Bruce's heart was buried. They were both very beautiful. Melrose is a picture postcard town, unbelievably pretty. We managed to misplace 2 of our tour members here. They got the times wrong and could not be found anywhere in the area we had visited. Turned out they had found a nice spot for lunch off the beaten track. They ended up catching the public bus back to Edinburgh, as we had to leave without them.

We walked around the town for a few hours after we got back. It is an amazing place. There is the most monstrous memorial to Sir Walter Scott, the novelist, it has to be seen to be believed!

The architecture in Edinburgh is amazing!

We went to Greyfriars to see the statue and grave of Greyfriars Bobby. The cemetery is very different from those we see at home. Quite random.

We then had a lovely meal and came back to the hotel about 9.30. A long but fascinating day.
Tomorrow to Aberdeen.
